About 1.5 hours from Tokyo by Tohoku Shinkansen. Sendai Gymnasium is at Futsukamachi Stn. ARABAKI festival venues have dedicated shuttle buses from Sendai Station.

Where to Stay

Hotels cluster around Sendai Station west exit, walking distance to shopping arcades and restaurants. For ARABAKI: book well in advance — accommodations fill up fast during the festival.

Where to Eat

Gyutan (beef tongue) is Sendai's soul food — the "Beef Tongue Street" near the station is a must. Zunda mochi and sasa-kamaboko are local specialties. Sendai Morning Market has fresh seafood.
