Marine Messe Fukuoka

About the Venue

Marine Messe Fukuoka is a major convention and concert complex located in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, adjacent to Hakata Port. As the largest venue of its kind in the Kyushu region, it is owned by Fukuoka City and operated by the Fukuoka Convention Center Foundation. The versatile main hall can be configured for large-scale exhibitions, conferences, or concerts, with a maximum capacity of approximately 10,000 people. For live events, the space is often set up with a standing floor or temporary seating, featuring a stage at one end that provides clear sightlines. The column-free design and professional acoustics ensure good sound distribution and an unobstructed view from most areas, suitable for various genres from pop and rock to electronic music. The venue has hosted concerts and tours by numerous prominent domestic and international artists, establishing itself as a key hub for major music events in western Japan. Its location offers convenient access via bus or subway from Hakata Station.

Marine Messe Fukuoka is the largest indoor arena in Kyushu, sitting on the Hakata waterfront in the Okihama district of Fukuoka City. The original Hall A opened in April 1995 with a maximum standing capacity of 15,000 — roughly 10,000 in a seated concert configuration — and was joined by a second, 5,000-capacity Hall B in April 2021, giving the complex the flexibility to run two shows in parallel or to use Hall B as a rehearsal or warm-up space. The suspended roof over Hall A, designed in consultation with Kisho Kurokawa's office, uses tensioned cables to span a column-free floor, a feature that keeps sight lines clean for centre-stage productions and that makes the venue a near-permanent fixture on domestic arena tours from Arashi to BTS-era Kyushu legs. Access is almost entirely by bus: from Hakata Station take Nishitetsu routes 88 or 99 from Bus Stop A to ''Marine Messe Fukuoka Mae'', a ride of roughly 15 minutes; from Tenjin-Kitaguchi bus centre the trip is around 20 minutes. Taxi fares from Hakata Station run about ¥1,200, and share-taxi queues after shows are officially marshalled at the west exit. The Fukuoka Kokusai Center and Fukuoka Sun Palace sit on the same block, so multi-venue weekends are common. Foreign ticket holders should arrive at least an hour early: will-call at Marine Messe enforces passport-based name verification for almost every overseas-artist show, and the bay-side winds in winter make outdoor queues genuinely cold.
