About St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra

The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1882, is one of Russia’s oldest and most prominent professional symphony orchestras. It is the principal ensemble of the D. D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia and performs Russian, European classical and modern repertoire. Its history is closely associated with major conductors including Yevgeny Mravinsky; Nikolay Alexeev is chief conductor.
