About Dresden Philharmonic

The Dresden Philharmonic, officially Dresdner Philharmonie, is the concert orchestra of the city of Dresden. Its official institutional biography traces the orchestra's history to a citizens' initiative in 1870. Since 2017, its home has been the concert hall in Dresden's Kulturpalast. The orchestra page lists 116 musicians, so a single conductor must not be stored as if that person were the orchestra's only member. The organisation's own description emphasises a warm, rounded orchestral sound, especially in Romantic repertoire, together with flexibility from Baroque and Viennese Classical works to contemporary music.

The current chief conductor is Sir Donald Runnicles, who began the role in the 2025/26 season. This replaces the stale database member field that still named former chief conductor Michael Sanderling. The orchestra's official 2026/27 materials continue to identify Runnicles as chief conductor and Tabita Berglund as principal guest conductor. Leadership titles are time-sensitive facts, while the orchestra itself remains the stable entity behind concert and ticket pages. Guest conductors and soloists on a programme should not be mistaken for permanent orchestra members.

The official institutional biography records a discography of more than 330 works and a long international touring history. Its 2025/26 Asia tour included Japan and Korea and is now historical context, not evidence of a future Japanese performance. For current ticket research, users should match the orchestra name, conductor, soloist, programme, city and venue against the official calendar or local promoter. Dates, programmes and cast can change between tour stops, so TIXVOY keeps changing session facts on event pages while this artist page supplies the reviewed evergreen identity.
