Fuji Rock Festival 2026: The Complete Guide

Fuji Rock Festival is Japan's — and Asia's — largest outdoor music festival. Held annually at the Naeba Ski Resort deep in the mountains of Niigata Prefecture, it transforms a winter ski slope into a three-day, multi-stage celebration of music, rain, mud, and unforgettable moments. In 2026, it returns for its 29th edition with one of the strongest lineups in recent memory.

2026 Headliners

Friday, July 24 — The xx

The London trio returns to Japan with their signature minimalist sound — glacial guitars, intimate vocals, and the kind of emotional weight that hits differently in an outdoor festival setting. After years of relative quiet, seeing The xx headline a major festival stage in 2026 is a genuine event.

Saturday, July 25 — Khruangbin

Texas's most internationally celebrated trio blends Thai funk, dub, soul, and psychedelia into something that sounds like no one else. Their sets are hypnotic, groove-heavy, and reliably stunning live. Fuji Rock represents one of their most significant Asia dates in 2026.

Sunday, July 26 — Massive Attack

Bristol's Trip-hop godfathers last headlined Fuji Rock in 2010. Sixteen years later, they return with the full weight of Mezzanine, Blue Lines, and Protection behind them. Teardrop. Unfinished Sympathy. Angel. Under the night sky at Naeba, this will be one of the festival performances of the year.

Why This Lineup Matters

Hi-STANDARD — Japan's punk rock institution. Every Fuji Rock appearance they make becomes a defining moment for the Green Stage crowd.

Fujii Kaze — The biggest Japanese pop artist of his generation, known globally for Kirari and Shinunoga E-Wa. This will be one of his largest outdoor festival appearances.

XG — The Japanese girl group breaking international barriers with English-language releases and global production. Performing at Fuji Rock signals a new level of their career.

Mitski — Her presence at any festival is an event. Puberty 2, Be the Cowboy, and Laurel Hell have made her one of indie music's most essential voices.

Massive Attack — Simply one of the most significant live acts of the past 30 years, rarely performing in Japan. This booking alone justifies the trip.

Stages

Fuji Rock's defining feature is its layout: multiple stages scattered across a forested mountain terrain, connected by walkways, bridges, and a gondola.

  • Green Stage — The main stage. Headliners, large crowds, mud included.
  • White Stage — Second largest, in the forest. Often has the most interesting programming.
  • Red Marquee — Indoor tent stage. Electronic, jazz, world music.
  • Field of Heaven — Deep in the woods. The most spiritual stage at the festival.
  • Oasis Area — Food, drinks, late-night smaller stage.

Allow 10–30 minutes walking time between stages.

Getting There

Recommended: Shinkansen + Shuttle Bus

  2. Festival shuttle bus from station to venue (~40 min, ¥2,000 one-way; return bus is free)

Official Tour Buses
Available from 17 cities including Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. Tokyo round-trip: ~¥15,200. Journey time from Tokyo: up to 7 hours. Comfortable option if you don't want to navigate trains.

By Car
Kan-etsu Expressway to Tsukiyono IC or Yuzawa IC. Parking: ¥6,000–22,000 (minimum 2 ticketholders required per vehicle). Expect heavy traffic on Friday afternoon.

FAQ

How far is Naeba from Tokyo?
About 90 minutes by Shinkansen — the closest of Japan's three major outdoor festivals to Tokyo.

Will it rain?
Almost certainly yes, at least one day. "Bring rain gear" is not a suggestion at Fuji Rock, it's a requirement.

What if official tickets sell out?
The 3-day ticket historically sells out early. TIXVOY lists resale tickets from verified sellers, and you can post a buying request if you're looking.

Can kids come?
Yes. Under-15s are free with a guardian. Fuji Rock is genuinely family-friendly.

Is this the same as Fuji Q Highlands?
No. Fuji Rock has nothing to do with Mt. Fuji geographically. The name comes from the original 1997 edition held near Mt. Fuji. Since 1999 it has been held at Naeba in Niigata.
